POSITION:Recreation Administrative Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION
HIRING SALARY: $31,937.00

DESCRIPTION:

  • Work is clerical in nature and includes providing information on the telephone, email, and in person; taking payments for department fees; balancing the cash drawer daily; maintaining a variety of records and files; preparing various reports and information; and ordering supplies and maintenance items. Work requires good communication skills, tact, courtesy, and customer service skills since this employee is in frequent contact with program participants and other parties. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the parks and recreation director and is evaluated through conferences, written reports, and observation of work in process. This classification is considered as non-exempt for purposes of compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provides frontline interaction with the public in a friendly and professional manner through personal contact at office counter, answering telephones, emails, and interdepartmental communications.
  • Greets and directs visitors and callers regarding park shelter reservations, program registrations, facility use, events and programs, permits, and refers to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Balances cash drawer, prepares daily bank deposits and provides detailed reports to finance department.
  • Handles rentals of gym, activity rooms, ball fields, shelters, and the senior center; prepares and maintains forms. Records rentals in excel spreadsheets.
  • Signs up participants in various programs and receives payments for program fees
  • Recommends and updates administrative systems to ensure efficiency.
  • Takes minutes for parks and recreation board meetings; sends out agenda; mails or emails information to members.
  • Registers and receives fees from vendors for special events and festivals.
  • Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Prepares cash, records sales, and reports income from concessions.
  • Prepares and sends information to the media.
  • Assists parks and recreation staff with special events and programs.
  • Trains, schedules and manages part time office staff.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of high school or equivalent, and some vocational training in business or related field and office or customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

POSITION:POLICE OFFICER I
DEPARTMENT: POLICE
PAY RANGE: $37,482 – $55,457 ANNUALLY + $1,000 Sign-on bonus.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Performs general duty law enforcement work in the City’s Police Department.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Operates a patrol car to observe for violations of laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order in the City.
  • Operates two-way radio to receive instructions and responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints.
  • Serves warrants, summons, subpoenas, court orders and makes arrests; testifies in court.
  • Enforces laws such as motor vehicle, criminal, domestic violence, drug enforcement, civil citations, etc.
  • Performs preliminary investigations of accidents, complaints, and crimes; secures crime scene; identifies and gathers initial statements from witnesses and informants; and debriefs and prepares reports for the Police Detective.
  • Completes incident reports, police reports, and other necessary paperwork associated with arrests and violations; maintains vehicle logs for gas and mileage.
  • Provides the public with information on law enforcement, criminal incidents, and directions.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from high school; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid North Carolina Class C driver license with a safe driving record. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate issued by the State of NC.
    **A lateral transfer from another agency with like duties and a minimum of three years experience will be considered for appointment above the Police Officer I entry level salary.**

POSITION: AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR (SEASONAL)
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND REC
PAY RATE: $7.25 per hour.

DESCRIPTION:

  • The After School Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants..

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Upon hire, completion Park provided First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Education classes or experience in youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Possess ability to make decisions that align with the mission and departmental goals with regards to child care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help write and implement a weekly schedule for your group.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, etc. This includes time spent on the bus.
  • Identify and respond to participant behavior issues.
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Park Leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports and daily attendance.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your participants’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Help guide Junior Counselors and Volunteers to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills..

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
  • Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general activities (child weighing 50 – 200 pounds).
