POSITION:Maintenance (Seasonal/Temporary)

Hourly: $10.00, average 20-25hrs per week

DESCRIPTION:

  • Participates in activities focused on safety, maintenance and appearance of park and other City of Archdale facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Mowing, trimming, mulching, general janitorial, assisting in various maintenance projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to learn and complete tasks as instructed. Be able to successfully use mowing apparatus and other maintenance equipment. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and have a safe driving record.

HOURS:

  • 7am-12pm weekdays; other times when necessary

POSITION:Recreation Office Aid
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND REC
Hourly: $7.25, schedule is flexible: 2-4 nights a week with 2-3 hours per shift

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

  • Performs responsible clerical work in the parks and recreation department, mainly in the evenings and weekends.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:

  • Work includes providing accurate information on the telephone and in person; taking payments for department fees; balancing the cash drawer; and maintaining a variety of records and files. Work requires good communication skills, tact, courtesy, and customer service skills since this employee is in frequent contact with program participants and other parties.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; receives inquiries and provides information or refers inquiries. to appropriate personnel; routes incoming calls and records messages, as necessary.
  • Receives payments for program fees; records and maintains receipts.
  • Handles rentals of gym, activity rooms, ball fields, shelters, and the senior center; prepares and maintains forms.
  • Signs up participants in various programs.
  • Balances cash drawer and completes appropriate reports.
  • Assists parks and recreation staff with special events and programs.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • General knowledge of the organization, operation, programs, and policies of the city and the department.
    • Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
    • Considerable knowledge of arithmetic, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
    • Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the general public and others.
      • Skill in operating office equipment including computer, phone, fax, and other related equipment.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Completion of high school or equivalent, and some office or customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Work in this position is sedentary work and involves sitting most of the time. Employee must have the physical agility to move about freely, including climbing stairs. An employee in this class must be able to talk and hear in order to be able to respond to the public and other employees. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and may come in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids.

      POSITION:POLICE OFFICER I
      DEPARTMENT: POLICE
      PAY RANGE: $37,482 – $55,457 ANNUALLY + $1,000 Sign-on bonus.

      DESCRIPTION:

      • Performs general duty law enforcement work in the City’s Police Department.

      JOB DUTIES:

      • Operates a patrol car to observe for violations of laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order in the City.
      • Operates two-way radio to receive instructions and responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints.
      • Serves warrants, summons, subpoenas, court orders and makes arrests; testifies in court.
      • Enforces laws such as motor vehicle, criminal, domestic violence, drug enforcement, civil citations, etc.
      • Performs preliminary investigations of accidents, complaints, and crimes; secures crime scene; identifies and gathers initial statements from witnesses and informants; and debriefs and prepares reports for the Police Detective.
      • Completes incident reports, police reports, and other necessary paperwork associated with arrests and violations; maintains vehicle logs for gas and mileage.
      • Provides the public with information on law enforcement, criminal incidents, and directions.
      • Performs related work as assigned.

      EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

      • Graduation from high school; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid North Carolina Class C driver license with a safe driving record. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate issued by the State of NC.
        **A lateral transfer from another agency with like duties and a minimum of three years experience will be considered for appointment above the Police Officer I entry level salary.**

        POSITION: AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR (SEASONAL)
        DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND REC
        PAY RATE: $7.25 per hour.

        DESCRIPTION:

        • The After School Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants..

        REQUIREMENTS:

        • Upon hire, completion Park provided First Aid and CPR certification.
        • Education classes or experience in youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
        • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
        • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
        • Strong organizational and communication skills.
        • Possess ability to make decisions that align with the mission and departmental goals with regards to child care.

        ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

        • Help write and implement a weekly schedule for your group.
        • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, etc. This includes time spent on the bus.
        • Identify and respond to participant behavior issues.
        • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
        • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Park Leadership.
        • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports and daily attendance.
        • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program.
        • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your participants’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
        • Help guide Junior Counselors and Volunteers to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills..

        PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

        • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
        • Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general activities (child weighing 50 – 200 pounds).
