Fences do not require a Zoning or Building Permit. However, fences must still meet the following requirements:
Both above-ground and in-ground must be completely enclosed by a fence that is 4 ft. tall or greater with a "self-latching" gate. This fence can either enclose just the pool or the yard in which the pool is located. Additionally, both types of pools are classified as "accessory structures" which must be set back at least 5 ft. from any property line and 10 ft. from the home.
In-ground pools require a Zoning Permit prior to their construction.
If a shed has at least one dimension that is 12 ft. or greater (ex. 10 x 12 ft.) then both a Zoning Permit and Building Permit are required. This requirement applies to sheds that are built on-site as well as pre-fabricated sheds that are deposited on-site
Regulations vary based on the "zoning district" that the property is in. For more information, please visit our Zoning* (include link) page or contact the Planning Department at _planning@archdale-nc.gov.
